Entick v Carrington 19 Howell's State Trials 1029 (1765)
Held on the pages of the Constitution Society a 'private non-profit organization dedicated to research and public education on the principles of constitutional republican government'. The case establishes the common law principle of a basic right to a home free from invasion and that the executive, nor its servants, cannot lawfully assume powers which are not known to the courts. The case is of such constitutional significance that Jefferson is said to have had it in mind when framing the US Constitution.
