The Department for Children, Schools and Families states its purpose as 'to make England the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up'. Its website offers a breakdown on the DCSF's activities and responsibilites, as well as access to lots of tables and stats. Most usefully are the publications available; these are broken down into departmental reports, documents, research publications and statistical publications with a few others thrown in.
